This place is Mountain Biking Heaven, if you haven't been to Rotorua and biked here, then it's time you did.

Whakarewarewa has some of the best trails in New Zealand, and there are options for people of all abilities. From beginners trails like Tahi and The Dipper, the superb intermediate trails including Challenge Roadside and Corners, and through to expert only trails including the National DH Taniwha.

Located just a few kilometres out of Rotorua, the location is also convenient, with loads of accommodation options close by, and excellent facilities for car parking, showers and toilet facilities at the forest.

There are a number of car parking options at the Redwoods Visitors Centre, off Waipa State Mill Road, Eight Mile Road and Tararewa Road.

Southstar Adventures operate a shuttle service from Hill Road (also calls at the main car park at selected times) taking the more adventurous riders to the top of the trail network on Tawa Road, saving time and energy getting back to the top, and all for a very reasonable price.

Best of all the trails in the forest are free to use, are of excellent quality, and are well maintained.

Get down to Rotorua and enjoy this Gold Grade (IMBA) mountain biking location.

Went to Rotorua for the first time biking in February this year, and loved it so much we head down from Auckland once a month to ride in Redwoods.

Loads of options for trails, which is great for us, as the boys can head for the shuttle, and the girls can stick to the trails they like, their favourite being The Dipper, and the boys just love Corners, Billy T, Eagle vs Shark and the Challenge Roadside.

This place gets five stars from us. Best of all the trails ride well in the dry or wet, as the soil type is well suited to mountain biking.

Have you ridden this trail? If so, why not provide a Trail Review.
