We bought these to replace some Suntour air forks on my sons Merida bike that simply weren't up to the task, and these RockShox Recon forks have made such a difference.
For the price we paid they have been a sound investment, and the good chaps at Bike Barn Albany did a great job cutting the crown to length and fitting them for a very reasonable price.
The Recon forks are smooth and give the right amount of bounce, on a good run down One Night Stand, he will get a good 80mm of travel from these forks, unlike the old Suntours that just about moved 30mm, even though they were 100mm air forks like these Recons.
The model we bought was the 9mm QR 2016 model, in a 27.5 inch wheel size, and they have a forged aluminium crown and coil spring. They have 32mm stanchions and a Rebound adjustment at the bottom of the fork, and a turn-key lockout on the top.
As an upgrade from a less-than-capable fork these are a great buy, especially if you can get them for a good price.
